DOWN TO THE WIRE!!! The keen contest in the 1000m U-20 Boys’ cycle race in this photo, sums up the battle for supremacy today at the National Stadium as Districts from around the country go all out to secure the National Schools’ Championships title.
District Six, Corentyne are currently leading the Cycling competition of the National Schools’ Championships with 173 points with District 10, Upper Demerara in hot pursuit on 144 points and District 15, New Amsterdam third on 114 points.
East Coast Demerara is currently fourth with 98 points; West Coast Berbice fifth with 92 points; North Georgetown sixth with 90 points; East Georgetown seventh with 80 points; South Georgetown eighth with 61 points and Bartica ninth with 47 points.
West Demerara tenth with 36 points; Essequibo Coast eleventh on 29 points; Potaro twelfth on 25 points; East Bank Demerara thirteenth on 15 points; Essequibo Islands fourteenth on 10 points; Rupununi fifteenth on eight points while North West is yet to get off the mark.
Meanwhile, in the Track and Field competition, Upper Demerara extended its overnight lead on Day Three of the contest, amassing an almost unassailable 325 ½ points with Corentyne in the second position with 213 points and Rupununi third on 210 ½ points.
North Georgetown is fourth on 205 points with East Georgetown fifth on 196 points. West Coast Berbice is sixth in the track and field competition on 193 points as East Coast Demerara trails on 159 ½ points for seventh. South Georgetown is eighth on 143 ½ points while West Demerara is in the ninth position on 142 points. New Amsterdam completes the top ten teams in the track and field competition with 137 points.
East Bank Demerara is in the eleventh position on 120 points; Essequibo Coast is twelfth with 100 points while North West and Bartica are tied for thirteenth on 77 points. Essequibo Islands has 19 ½ points for fourteenth with Potaro sixteenth on 16 points.
