Dear Editor,
A picture tells a thousand words and the picture of the canal in front of the house of Freddie Kissoon being clearly demarked and left unattended to, even as the canal on either sides were cleared, tells a story of evil, petty politics and violation of citizens rights.
The pictorial message is clear for the world to see, that Freddie Kissoon whose daily Kaieteur News column exposes government’s weakness and failures, is a victim of a hostile government, prepared to embrace petty politics and by any means necessary, make life as uncomfortable for him and anyone, who dares to oppose them.
We remember the assault with biological hazards that was flung in his face by an unknown individual not so long ago. Now this most ridiculous act of discrimination, utilizing his taxpayers’ dollars, is a clear sign that this government would not hesitate, to stoop into the cesspits, to achieve their goal of creating misery and torment for those whom they target.
Drainage and irrigation is the duty and responsibility of a department of government. It is essential for maintaining public health and the integrity of one’s property.
Leaving the canal clogged in front of Freddie Kissoon also jeopardizes irrigation of all properties and flow of drains emptying into this canal. It places Freddie Kissoon and all residents within the vicinity at public health risk, at a time when dengue fever and other vector borne diseases are on the rise.
This blatant disregard and transparent aggression demonstrates that we the people of Guyana are being taken for granted and we have failed to reign in a government contemptuous of citizen’s rights and the rule of law.
The creation of a public health risk in Kissoon’s environment does not deter this government, similar as the recent garbage crises and near public health disaster in the capital city did not deter them in their effort s to score cheap shots.
Blocking the City Council’s access to revenue, for political gain, is a bigger picture to the blocked canal in front of Kissoon’s home.
Today it is Freddie Kissoon, who will it be tomorrow and what continued, or ingenious manner of aggression, violation and demonstration of evil politics will citizens of this country continue to endure? Will it be further fecal assault, marginalisation and discrimination at all levels, continued incompetence and poor governance? Will it be more death squads, embrace of new drug lords and pseudo anti corruption efforts?
Will it be stagnation of appointments, usurpation of authority and attempts to economically deprive their opponents? Will it be fires and destruction of public records and property? Will it be more hostility to the GB&GWU, PSU and other unions and labour deemed to be non PPP supporters? Will it be use of foreign companies such as BCGI and employment of mercenaries paid to carrying out their evil, or will it be the propaganda of hate and divisiveness as they seek to entrench themselves?
The picture of demarcation in the canal in front of the house of Freddie Kissoon captures the essence of what this nation has encountered for 18 years long years. It is a picture of divisiveness, vindictiveness and a government that is barefaced and emboldened to unleash acts of discrimination against any of its citizens with impunity.
The voices of opinion leaders, civil society, the opposition and all who seek to lead this nation cannot be silent if we truly desire change.
Guyana has reached another nadir and silence and apathy lends approval to these continuous violations and threat to the well being of citizens and the entire nation.
We must protest!
