Candace Baker of South Turkeyen, Georgetown, was granted bail to the tune of $125,000 when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge of larceny from the person.
Barker, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that between October 31 and November 07, she stole from the virtual complainant (VC) Shondell Hills, one gold chain valued $210,000, one pair of gold earrings valued $3,000 and $8,000 in Guyana currency.
It is alleged that on the day in question the defendant went to clean the home of the VC, and after the chores were completed, Hills discovered that the items were missing. Further checks came up empty handed.
Hills reported the matter to the police and Baker was arrested and charged.
The accused is scheduled to make her next court appearance on January 4.
