The High Commission of igh Commission of Canada on Monday announced the launching of a certificate-based training programme by the Canada-Guyana Partnership for Community Planning Project 2009-2010, in celebration of World Town Planning Day, which was observed Monday.
The training, which commenced yesterday covers eight courses to be conducted over a six-month period in Guyana, and targets the staff of four Agencies: the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), the main project partner; the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development; the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission.
This training is being conducted under the project’s Training and Institutional Strengthening Component.
The training programme will help establish effective public sector and community capacity necessary to prepare and assist in the preparation of Community Development Plans (CDPs).
The Canada-Guyana Partnership for Community Planning Project 2009-2010 commenced in March 2009 with the signing of a three-year bi-lateral agreement between the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the CH&PA, on behalf of the Government of Guyana. The project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
The CH&PA is the executing agency for the IDB-Funded Low Income Settlements Program (LIS Phase II), taking place between 2009 and 2014. During this time, the programme will deliver 4,900 serviced lots to lower income households in selected communities throughout Guyana.
The delivery of services lots is to be preceded by the preparation of community development plans in each of the selected communities.
These plans are being prepared for the period between April 2009 and December 2011. It is within this programme framework that the CIP-CH&PA Partnership for Community Planning will support the CH&PA in the efficient delivery of Community Development Plans.
