A 12-year-old boy was killed last night after he was struck down by a hit-and-run driver near Madewini on the East Bank Demerara public road.
Kevin James, of Timehri, sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre at around 22:00 hrs.
Kaieteur News understands that he was brought to the hospital by the owner of a car and that the driver was held for questioning.
Kevin’s mother, Ann James, told Kaieteur News that she had left him at home when she went to work earlier in the day. The grief-stricken woman said she had told the lad to remain with his siblings while she was out.
However, when she returned at around 16:00 hrs she was told that Kevin had gone fishing with a friend.
Ms. James aid that at around 21:00 hrs, a man came at her home enquiring about her son’s whereabouts. Shortly after, police ranks from the Madewini Police Station informed her that her son had been injured and was at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
It was only when she had arrived at the hospital that she realised that her son was dead.
James is the third person to perish on the East Bank Demerara public road in recent days.
