The army’s Skyvan lost its nose wheel on Sunday while landing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
According to the Guyana Defence Force yesterday, no one was injured.
A short army statement said that the nose wheel of the Skyvan aircraft, 8RGGK, collapsed on landing at the airport at approximately 1542 hours.
At the time of the accident, the co-pilot was undergoing mandatory aircraft proficiency checks that are required every six months.
Proficiency checks are part of the aviation industry’s mandatory safety measures to ensure aircraft safety and the pilot’s competency. According to the army, its Air Corps engineers are currently assessing the damage.
Kaieteur News also understands that a team of officials from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority was on site yesterday.
The investigations have to determine whether the incident was because of pilot error or problems with the actual Skyvan.
