Dear Editor,
I was recently in Guyana and feel strong repulsion toward the vulgarity the innocents are subjected to in the minibuses.
I am an overseas-based Guyanese, who is madly in love with my country. Guyana for me as well as for many others over here is our true home. I would love to come back home to live.
President Jagdeo was recently here making promises to Guyanese who would like to return home. Among the promises made was the allocation of house lot to anyone who would like to return.
This is all well and good. But Mr. President even though I do not own a house where I am and many of us have to work two jobs to survive here, my democratic rights are not trampled upon.
On my way to and from work Mr. President, I can read a novel, study for an exam and have my children not subjected to the vulgarity they were subjected to back home in the minibuses.
I want to come back home sir. But I want to be able to ride on the minibuses free of noise and vulgarity. I want to recline in my home without boom boxes accompanying the barbeque, the police give permission to hold in front of my home.
I love my country sir. Do you not see the rise in incest and vulgarity in our nation sir? My heart goes out to our children who have been mentally robbed of their innocence at the hands of drivers and conductors and to the old folks suffering in these modes of transportation.
When will this downward spiral of blatant disregard for the innocent stop? Why are the religious organisations and GHRA silent about this vulgarity? Is it because the big wigs in these organisations are not themselves or their children subjected to it because they have their own vehicle to transport them?
My heart hurts for the folks who do not have a voice. My anger rise at the thought of the police for subjecting innocent people in their homes, to noise nuisance and vulgarity.
Mr. President, please bring back democracy to the people and stamp out lawlessness of the drivers, conductors and barbeque boom boxes.
Overseas-Based Guyanese
