According to Shenise Lopes, the woman whose ten-month-old daughter is in need of urgent heart surgery, the Ministry of Health has delivered the promised US$3,000, towards the surgery. However, Lopes said that no other financial support has been forthcoming.
Ten-month-old Amayah Lopes of 209 Kuru Kururu, who has been living with medical troubles of the heart for almost her entire life, is now at the stage where her only chance of having prolonged life depends entirely on her undergoing an urgent heart surgery.
A medical report produced by the mother of the ailing child indicates that the infant was at six months old diagnosed with a serious heart condition that can be detrimental. The mother is a student nurse at St Joseph Mercy Hospital.
The report further stated that Amayah has been suffering from frequent tract infections and recurrent shortness of breath.
The concerned Lopes told this publication that she is fearful for her child’s life, since the infant no longer gains weight and whenever she plays for a somewhat lengthy period she normally becomes “short of breath”.
A letter from the Georgetown Public Hospital indicated that the infant urgently needs to undergo surgery.
Unfortunately, this type of surgery is not available in Guyana, thus the infant will need to be flown to India in order to undergo surgery.
The distraught mother is now soliciting funds from the public to assist her in doing all that is possible to save her only child’s life .
Persons interested in being a part of saving this innocent child’s life can contact Shenise Lopes on 661- 2527 or Andray Welcome on 694-2654/2285147.
