Dear Editor,
I have a big problem about how the bodies of the dead are handled by the authorities at the scenes of mass murders and fatal accidents, especially prior to them being transported to the morgue. Bodies in the Bartica Massacre were thrown on top of each other in a speed boat and transported to Georgetown. The same thing happened after the Lusignan killings a few years ago. And last Friday (29-10_10), on the #19 Public Road, it was the worst yet.
The bodies and body parts were being thrown into the back of a 4X4 Pick-Up in such a slapdash and irreverent manner. It was horrible. I don’t know about anyone, but if one of those persons was my relative, I would not be pleased in the manner in which they lay in the back of the vehicle. Perhaps the authorities do not know of the use of a body bag. Perhaps, too, our human rights association is sleeping when things like these are happening. Perhaps they’re only concerned about the living; or perhaps they don’t care.
This is something which should not be happening. What message are we sending our fellow human beings and our children? You have women strewn in the nude with body parts being exposed and other bodies just dropped on top of each other.
I am sure our health authorities can afford some body bags for these kinds of situation. This is a total disgrace. All in all, there doesn’t seem to be much dignity for the living these days, much less the dead.
