A teenager indentified as Junior Henry was nursing severe wounds about his body yesterday after a drinking binge with a friend at Bonasika Creek in the Essequibo River. Henry is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)
Marvin John, the teen’s uncle, told Kaieteur News that from 11:00 o’clock his nephew and another man (name given) were having “a few drinks of Extra White Rum” that lasted until 17:30 hours, when the man allegedly assaulted Henry with a cutlass resulting in the teenager receiving numerous stitches about his body and head.
According to John, the two had always encountered problems while drinking due to “tantalizing”. John said that his nephew has always teased the accused about his wife, often saying, “If you slip up your wife will cheat on you again” with other untold remarks.
John explained that they all are colleagues who work on a farm. He stated that most weekends after work they would indulge themselves with “a few drinks.” Nevertheless, he never expected this reaction. “Dem boys are friends for years,” John stated.
Recalling the incident, John stated that while taking a drink with another friend in front of the farm house, he heard his nephew scream and he ran to see what the matter was, only to find Henry covered with blood and his friend fleeing the scene.
John said that he rented a boat from Bonasika Creek to Parika. Then public-spirited citizens contacted the police and ambulance that took Henry to the GPHC.
Henry’s assailant had not been apprehended up to press time.
