Merely hours prior to their respective bouts against Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore and Shondell ‘Mystery Lady’ Alfred tonight, the two Spanish fighters Breilor Teran and Olga Julio are spouting confidence and have promised to end their respective bouts in the first round in the Holland Promotions Caribbean Fury 2 fight card at the Princess Hotel and Casino tonight.
The two foreign fighters uttered these bold words moments after completing a light training session yesterday morning and had returned to their hotel in Stevedore Housing Scheme.
Teran said that he knew little of Moore but much of himself and was confident that he would win their bantamweight encounter tonight at the Princes Hotel, Providence EBD. He said that he last fought in Mexico three months ago, on June 12, and dropped a close 12 rounds verdict to one of the locals there. He further explained that the bout was for the Central American and Caribbean bantamweight title.
Sporting a record of 21 fights that included 12 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw the Venezuelan said that while Moore’s record precedes him, he (Teran) is not afraid. He said that he has a strong faith in God and that coupled with his boxing ability would see him on to victory. “I am a strong believer in God and tonight I will uplift his name,” said Teran. When this reporter suggested the God might very well be in Moore’s corner, the Spanish fighter tartly responded, “My God is stronger!” He further intimated that he has perfected the left hook and that Moore would be seeing a lot of this particular punch in their bout.
Meanwhile, Julio has also dispatched a missive to Alfred saying that she will be knocked out. Slimly built, the Columbian sports a 17 fight record. She has won 8 of them and lost a similar amount while securing a draw in the other. She said that her left hook is her best punch and she would be using it to good effect tonight.
Despite their bold pronouncements both foreign fighters would have to dig deep to pull of victories over their local counterparts. If Alfred comes into the bout tonight with the kind of form witnessed in the DeGroot encounter, Julio would require much more than a left hook to clinch a victory much less knock out the WIBA World bantamweight champion. Julio does appear to be kittle trim and if indeed, as she claims, she packs a punch, indeed that would be a deception since she looks more suited for a boxer type approach rather than a brawler. The bell tonight would erase all speculation.
Teran also appears to be in the pink of condition. He sports a slim physique, on par with that of Moore but the latter fighter has demonstrated the guts and power of a heavyweight in many of his bouts. Moore has his sights on a world title and from all appearances will not allow Teran to stand in the way of his dreams. If indeed the Venezuelan comes with the force he has spouted then fans could settle down for a real treat.
Added to those bouts is the Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil/Pamela London return bout. The former fighter had drawn first blood in the first encounter and the latter has since vowed to turn the tables this time around. Those having a look at O’Neil in action in previous bouts, especially since her epic win against Kathy Rivers, would know that London would require more than talks to pull off a victory.
Mark Murray, yet to make a resounding impact since entering the professional arena may yet be able to impact when he faces Canadian, Richard Reittie over 4 rounds. Murray would know that he has the support of all Guyana when he steps in the ring tonight and would want to take advantage of that fact while Clive Atwell would relish the opportunity to battle Gordon Trotman and improve his record on his way to a possible world ranking in the near future.
The action gets underway at 20:00hrs sharp and fans are advised to be seated early to witness every parry; every move; every punch.
