Thirty-two-year-old David Husen of La Penitence Public Road, is deeply troubled and traumatized after the treatment he experienced from some of the members of the Guyana Police Force.
According to Husen, on Wednesday last, he was at a stall in the La Penitence Market where he works, around midday when “some plain clothes officers” arrested him, without showing him any identification or stating the reason for his arrest.
He said that they held his hands behind his back and began beating him from the market, while asking him “Where the two big black tanks deh? Where yuh put dem? Who yuh sell dem to?”
Husen stated he was terrified and confused, but he knew nothing of what they were questioning him about, so he replied, “ Y’all accusing the wrong person”.
The beating did not stop, and persons in the market and on the roadways witnessed what happened to him. He was then taken to the home of a well-known international boxer in the area, and from the conversation the “plain clothes officers” had with the boxer, it was apparent that the tanks belonged to the boxer. The officers continued to beat him, he said, and the boxer joined them also. After long hours of beating and questioning, the men took him to the Ruimveldt Police Station. This was about 18:00 hours.
Husen explained that his “matter” was handed over to a “Constable Harding” who subsequently let him go, since they could not prove he did anything or found him in possession of the items.
He also stated that before this incident the boxer would usually threaten to kill him, and on numerous occasions he filed reports at the said police station, however, nothing was ever done about his complaints.
After being released from the Ruimveldt Police Station, he went to seek medical treatment due to immense pain about his body. Husen also claims to have internal bleeding resulting from the beatings he received from the “plain clothes officers” and boxer.
He added that when he urinates, there is blood in his urine.
On Thursday, he said he went to the Eve Leary Headquarters to lodge his complaint, and the officers took his statement, however, did not comment or respond to his situation. He was sent home.
