‘We will not sit back and let them take over’- Ally

With the insertion of the Group 2A category in the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) Guyanese driver Raymond Ally in an interview with Kaieteur Sport yesterday said that the development is a welcome one for the division and the sport as a whole.
Ally, who is among the top contenders in the category speaking about his preparations for tomorrow’s Seaboard Marine International Race Meet scheduled for the South Dakota Circuit informed that most of the problems that beset the car earlier has been rectified and fans could expect him to be in contention for top honours.
“I recently rebuilt the engine so I’m expecting the car to perform better since the category is so heavily subscribed you have to make the necessary modifications to remain competitive,” a confident sounding Ally said.
Ally, who drives a Toyota Corolla 4AGE, admitted that the car had suffered some mechanical problems during an earlier practice session, but assured that everything is working well heading into tomorrow’s showdown with the Barbadians who’re led by current leader in the points standing Edward Corbin and also includes Kenrick ‘Snappa’ Husbands, Jason Harewood and Mark Thompson.
“We will not sit back and let them take over, some of them are coming here for the first time and their lack of knowledge of the track is what we will have to use to our advantage,” the young driver pointed out.
Ally disclosed that the aim right now among the drivers is to continue their discussions with the relevant authorities to get the group standardised and that could very well encourage the Jamaicans who’re presently not involved in the group to come on board and participate next year.
Commenting on his chances of doing well, Ally believed that with the large amount of cars that will be on the grid, the strategy is to do well during the qualifying session today so that he will be stationed at the front of the grid thereby reducing the risk of getting involved in any accident or being held up by the slower cars.
“I just have to keep focus and avoid any mix-up with other cars, that is one sure way of doing well,” he felt.
He, however, indicated that even though the priority will be to do well individually, he will also be cognizant of the need to defend his teammates and give Guyana the best chance of doing well.
Ally paid recognition to his sponsors that include Popeye’s, Vintage Wood and Gas ‘N’ Go Friendship GuyOil, who according to him has been very supportive to him.
“They’ve all been very supportive to me throughout and it is indicative of their seriousness to assist sportsmen and sports generally and I hope that my performance will make them proud and hopefully good enough to guarantee our relationship in the future.”
