The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has issued a statement on the current status of the newly-constructed Olympic-size Swimming Pool at Liliendaal.
The release informed that the ministry wishes to “inform the public-especially the nation’s swimmers – that the newly-constructed Olympic-size Swimming Pool at Liliendaal has been completed and is now functional.”
“However, the contractor has not yet formally handed over the facility to the Ministry. The most recent site visit revealed that some landscaping and other aesthetic works are still to be completed.”
The release further stated that, “Under those circumstances the Ministry regrets that the Pool cannot be used for the GTU/MOE National Schools Swimming Championships as originally promised.
Only the best facilities should be made available to the nation’s young swimmers and that deadline cannot now be met, even though the Pool itself is ready.”
“The Ministry will announce the formal opening of its latest modern sports facility in due course.”
