Equipped with a recently acquired 2009 ZX6R Kawasaki local Superbike racer Maurice Menezes speaking with Kaieteur Sport shortly before he left for a practice session yesterday said that he is eagerly looking forward to Sunday’s showdown with the best riders in the Caribbean and Canada.
Menezes, who has always trailed his good friend Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira on the track, disclosed that he is hoping for better results this time and cautioned the opposition not to underestimate him.
“It’s been one week now since I’ve gotten the bike so I’m hoping to get in some valuable seat time today (yesterday) and have a good feel of its capability,” Menezes told this newspaper.
He said that he is optimistic that his performance will improve, especially with the fact that the bike is an upgrade from the last one and the matter now really is just to get adjusted quickly, before race day. He reckoned that competitors such as Kevin Graham, Vieira, Carlos Rodrigues and Gregory Lopes pose the biggest threat to his ambitions, but stated clearly that he is confident and anything could happen during a race.
“I’m really hoping to produce a good performance on Sunday, especially in front of the thousands of fans that are expected to converge at the South Dakota Circuit,” Menezes mentioned.
Menezes is being sponsored by Dixie Lee, E-Networks, Jailing, Professional Key Shop, Pit Stop, E.C. Vieira Investments, Iprint and Golyn & Sons.
He urged motor racing fans to come out and witness a day of races that are anticipated to be exciting in the Superbike category that is fully subscribed.
