Action in the Regal Stationery & Computer Centre over-35 male 20/20 & female open 10/10 softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport continued last weekend with several matches.
In the results from the games played: male over-35 category: Georgetown zone:
At Marshon ground:
Back Street Warriors defeated Marshon SC by 0ne run in a thrilling match. Back Street Warriors won the toss and batted scoring 193-6 in their 20 overs (Satrohan Panday 66 (4×6); Amernauth Panday 28; Mahadeo Dhanraj 3-31 from 4 overs) In reply Marshon came tantalizingly close by finishing on 192 all out in 20 overs (Mahadeo Dhanraj scoring a measured 69 (3×6;2×4) in a good all round performance, which was in vain as he had no support from the rest of the batsmen; Anrad Gobin 2-39 from 4 overs).
P&B XI defeated Mac Masters “B” XI by 61 runs. P&B XI batted first and amassed 209 -5 in 20 overs (Milton Mangar 60; Nadir Baskh 45 from 18 balls (5×6); Navendra Persaud 2 – 22 from 4 overs) In reply Mac Masters “B” were limited to 148-9 in 20 overs (Alan Azore 30; Wallack Joseph 4-20 from 4 overs).
Essequibo zone:
South Essequibo All Stars defeated Pomeroon by 14 runs. South All Stars batted first and scored 147-6 in 20 overs (Davendra Madhoo 42; Jagdesh Persaud 36; Orlando Singh 32; Brichand Dagar 3-42 from 4 overs; Dennis Ramdeen 2-57 from 4 overs).
In reply Pomeroon over-35 made 133 all out in 19.3 overs (Alvin Alphonso 36; Richard Joseph 26; Seepersaud Sankar 5-42 from 4 overs; Tameshwar Sugrim 3-30 from 2 overs).
North Essequibo over 35 defeated South Essequibo All Stars by 6 runs.
North Essequibo batted first and amassed 156-8 in 20 overs ( Laxmikant Narine 49; Kumar Persaud 30; Seepersaud Sankar 4-34 from 4 overs) In reply South Essequibo All Stars reached 150-7 when their allotted 20 overs were up (Gopaul Deen 72; Haroon Mohamed 29; Surrendra Menthal 2-2 from 1 over).
In the Female category: Essequibo zone:
At Wakapoi Ground:
Wakapoi Females XI defeated Charity Emeralds XI by 5 wkts in a nail biter with the match going down to the last over to win zone B in the Essequibo zone thereby earning the right to clash with Cottonfield SC who won zone A.
Charity Emeralds XI batted first and scored 79-3 in 10 overs (Shivanie Chattergoon 48; LaToya Sukram 20; Alana Phillips 2-10 from 2 overs) In reply Wakapoi Females XI made 83-5 in 8 overs (Alana Phillips 25; Shivanie Chattergoon 2-15 from 2 overs; Rita Fernandes 2-18 from 2 overs)
Georgetown zone: Tuschen Ground:
Monar Institute defeated Marshon SC females by 9 wkts.
Marshon SC females bated first and scored 81-3 in 10 overs (Dianne Smith 30; Pamattie Singh 20; Sara O’Selmo 2-10 from 2 overs) In reply Monar Institute raced to 83-1 in 7.2 overs (Keshana Thompson 43; Ingrid Manoo 21).
Berbice zone:
Heavenly Angels demolished # 55 Survival females by a massive 131 runs.
Heavenly Angels batted first and amassed 186 -1 (the highest score in the competition) in 10 overs. Guyana player Erva Giddings hitting a measured 87 which included 5 sixes and 3 fours; Trishanna Cort 63 (4×6; 4×4) The two sharing in a partnership of 145 off 7 overs; Guyana Skipper Shemaine Campbell clobbering 36 opening the batting which included 5 sixes and one four in the first over).
# 55 Survival Females were limited to 55-9 in their 10 overs (Molly Reece scored 20; Tessa Park opening the bowling was in a destructive mood taking 5-12 from 2 overs (the best figures of the competition).
The competition will continue this weekend with several matches.
