Ashmant Satamand, the young scrabble player from Paradise Scrabble Club had walked way with the honours when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) had staged its Novices championships earlier in the year.
He has been so impressive that the senior players the likes of President of GASP, Moen Gafoor had personally complimented him and envisaged that he had a bright future providing that he continues training assiduously. Reports are that the lad has been engaged in stiff practice and is ready to throw down the gauntlet when the GASP stages the Diwali Open tournament billed for the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground (GCC) today starting at 10:00hrs.
Registration for the tournament commences at 09:00hrs and the first tile will be placed at 10:00hrs.
Participants are reminded that the organizers are demonstrating a zero tolerance for late arrivals and are urging all players to be at the venue at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Players failing to adhere to this rule run the risk of losing valuable playing time since their clocks will be activated in their absence.
Players would be competing for trophies and other lucrative prizes donated by members of the corporate community.
