On Tuesday afternoon Berbice saw yet another road accident. This time there was no deaths but one young man was hospitalized.
Anoop Jagroop, 22, of Canefield, East Canje Berbice was heading east on the Canje Bridge away from New Amsterdam about 14:45hrs when the accident occurred.
According to reports, he was speeding on the bridge and attempted to overtake several vehicles while driving his White Toyota PGG 6218.
When he swerved out of his lane to do so he veered into the path of an oncoming Canter truck, license plate GEE 8951, owned by A. Ally and Sons Company.
The truck driver, Balram Persaud of Port Mourant, Corentyne slowed his vehicle and tried to veer out of Jagroop’s path however he was unable to do so.
Jagroop’s car slammed head on into the truck.
The young man was removed from the wrecked vehicle and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains a patient.
In a strange twist, Kaieteur News was made to understand that this is the second tragedy that has struck the Jagroop family in as many weeks. Apparently the 19-year-old taxi driver, Imran Roopnarine, who committed suicide just over a week ago after his relationship with a 14-year-old school girl was discovered, is Jagroop’s brother.
Meanwhile the police investigation into the accident is still underway.
