Ramnarine returned unopposed as President
President of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), Dinanath Ramnarine, was re-elected unopposed at its Annual General Meeting in Jamaica last month.
Other members elected to serve for two (2) years are: Wavell Hinds—Vice President (unopposed); Andrew Richardson—Secretary (elected); Samuel Badree—Assistant Secretary (elected); and Ramnaresh Sarwan—Treasurer (elected).
The newly elected officers replace Jimmy Adams (Secretary), Daren Ganga (Assistant Secretary) and Ian Bradshaw (Treasurer) but it was noted that Jimmy Adams and Daren Ganga will continue to serve the membership in other capacities.
The meeting thanked them for their services to WIPA through their executive roles and expressed their appreciation for their contributions in this regard.
In his address to the membership, President Ramnarine reported on the organization’s activities for the past year and provided an up-date on the outstanding matters between the WICB and WIPA. He emphasized that their representative body had to be constantly vigilant in the face of many challenges, some of which threaten the interests and welfare of members and, at times, the fabric of the organization.
The members gave their unanimous support to WIPA and urged the incoming Executive to carry out the mandate given to them, zealously.
Audited financial statements were also presented and adopted by the membership.
The opportunity was taken to congratulate Darren Sammy and Brendan Nash on their appointments as Captain and Vice-Captain respectively of the West Indies team.
The new West Indies’ captain thanked WIPA and the members present at the meeting for their support and promised to make every effort to lead his team with passion and commitment.
The meeting also thanked Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo for their efforts as Captain and Vice Captain respectively and wished them continued success in their future endeavor.
