Magistrate Fazil Azeez yesterday remanded John Wills who was charged along with Gregory Major for robbery under arms.
In court yesterday, only Wills was present to answer to the charge. According to a police source an arrest warrant was issued for Major.
No addresses were provided to the court for the two accused.
Wills appeared to be relaxed as he pleaded not guilty. He was unrepresented by an attorney.
The allegation is that on October 30 last, the two while being armed with one AK47 and one handgun, broke into the mining camp owned by William Moffet at Puruni, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni), and held the occupants at gun point.
They then discharged gunshots in the air and threatened to kill the workers if they did not show them where the gold was
After robbing the camp of over $15M worth of raw gold they made good their escaped.
The matter was reported to the police and men were arrested and charged.
Wills had his case transferred to the Bartica Magistrate court for December 1.
Martin Alfred limped into the prisoner’s dock yesterday before Magistrate Azeez to answer to the charge of attempt murder, to which he was not required to plead.
According to the police, the defendant and Ramesh Alphonso were on October 30 last, in a Beer Garden at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, when an argument erupted between them.
Martin then allegedly took out a knife he had in his possession and stabbed Alphonso several times to his abdomen.
Ramesh was subsequently rushed by an eyewitness to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he remains warded.
The matter was then reported to the police station and Alfred was arrested and charged.
He will make his next court appearance on December 3.
