With Alpha United sitting out comfortably at the top, the battle is on for the second place in the Guyana Football Federation Super League.
Five games were played recently at various venues and a fierce battle is on going for 2nd position with Milerock (29), GDF (28), Rosignol United (26) and Camptown (24) all in contention, while another battle to remain in the League for 2011 continues involving Liquid Gold (11), Bakewell Top XX (13), Buxton United (14) and Seawall United (17).
Last Saturday at the GFC Gd, GDF swamped Top XX by 6 goals to nil. With this win GDF remained in 3rd position with 28 points whilst Top XX continue to lose games at a rapid rate and is sitting in 9th position with 13 points and 1 game remaining against Victoria Kings.
Also on Saturday at Bartica, Liquid Gold and Camptown played to a thrilling 3 all draw, with Liquid Gold scoring 1st and Camptown equalising, and that trend continued to the end with Camptown scoring their 3rd and final goal in the 84th min. Camptown slipped to 5th with 24 points and 3 games remaining. Liquid Gold remains in the cellar position on 11 points with 3 games remaining with a possibility of reaching 20 points.
At the Enmore Ground on the same day, Buxton United and Milerock played to a 1 all draw. Buxton scoring 1st and Milerock equalising. The game ended in fading light with Milerock desperately trying to score another goal so as to earn the maximum points so as to challenge Alpha for Championship honours. If Milerock win their next 2 games, they are certain of placing second, their 2 games are Liquid Gold and Alpha United.
On Sunday at the Blairmont Ground, Rosignol United continued its fine showing at home with a come from behind win over Victoria Kings 2 – 1. This win put Rosignol in 4th position with 26 points and 3 games remaining and they have a very good chance in securing 2nd position. Victoria Kings remain on 18 points and is sitting in 6th position with 3 games remaining, safe from the regulation zone, the best position Victoria Kings could attain is 4th position with 27 points. Alpha, Milerock and GDF all have passed that amount with 36, 29 and 28 points respectively.
On Tuesday at the GFC Ground, Buxton United and Bakewell Top XX played to a nil all draw, Buxton is now on 14 points and Top XX on 13 points. Buxton have 3 more games to play and can reach 23 points, whilst Top XX have 1 more game remaining, they can score a maximum of 16 points.
Four (4) games are scheduled for tomorrow. At the GFC commencing at 17:00hrs, Buxton United and Rosignol meet, while at 19:00 hrs Victoria Kings and Camptown collide. At Uitvlugt Ground, Sewall will host GDF at 15:30hrs, while at Bartica, Milerock will play the home team Liquid Gold from 20:00hrs.
Two games are scheduled for Sunday at the GFC. At 17:00hrs Buxton United and Liquid Gold will clash and at 19:00 hrs, Victoria Kings and GDF will meet in the nightcap.
