Twenty-five races are carded for this Sunday’s Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship which will be held, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to the Organisers, the main sponsors for the event are GT&T Blue Power, Princess International, CARIB Beer, Auto Fashion, Kings Jewellery, Skyline Mortgage, Rent-A-Tent, Ready Mix, E-Networks & Seaboard Marine.
Competitors are expected from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and North America and they will be coming to challenge the Guyanese in what is anticipated to be the biggest Race Meet of the year in the Caribbean.
With the Caribbean and individual titles at stake fans could expect fierce rivalry between the best drivers and riders in the region.
Guyana no doubt will be looking to take full advantage of home-court and the likes of the experienced Andrew King, Kevin Jeffrey, who lies second in the points standing in the individual competition, Mark and Paul Vieira and Canada-based Shawn King are the designated team to take them over the line in their quest to secure the country title.
Guyana is currently in the top spot on 124 points, while Jamaica lurks closely on 118 and Barbados, who had a relatively quiet time at Dover Speedway in the opening leg, is still in with a chance on 83.
The Jamaicans, however, has the leading driver David Summerbell Jnr in their line-up and he no doubt will be aiming to maintain his supremacy and at the same time register valuable points for his country.
His support will come from former Caribbean champion Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore, who from all reports have been looking in fine mettle and should provide tough competition, while Peter ‘Zoom Zoom’ Rae is also capable of mixing it up with the best. The Bajans seems to be the strongest team on paper, especially with Roger Mayers’ presence and they will no doubt be seeking to retain the Caribbean crown with their full strength team.
Mayers, whose Ford Focus holds the lap record at the track has already predicted that he will shatter the existing time and fans are being urged to be there to witness the performance of the car that is arguably the fastest in the straight line.
The Maloney father and son combination of Doug and Mark are an experienced and savvy duo and they know all about being supportive to their teammates so an interesting battle in the Caribbean Series is looming.
The fight for individual honours in the Caribbean championship is certainly going to headline the day’s activities, but the other categories could also provide absorbing duels.
