Dear Editor,
With regards to the letter written by Navindra Persaud claiming that the AFC should respect Carrington’s right to contest any political office, this is a letter written with, as usual, pieces of the facts.
My choice of words to refer to Mr. Carrington as a moron was less than appropriate and for that I apologize to Mr. Carrington. However, one must recognize that no one was denying Mr. Carrington the right to contest for the leadership no matter how ridiculous his candidacy was, the issue was that the AFC has a lot of critical more important work to do and his running to the press with some half baked less than truthful story was inappropriate at best.
This immaturity and lack of respect for confidentiality on NEC matters is what shows even more glaringly, the reasons why Mr. Carrington is not qualified to be a leader.
Mr. Carrington is a personable chap, respectful and very decent fellow, but he along with many others within the AFC need to learn that their wild contortions and running to the press with content and confidential information that were not cleared for press or external consumption and then quoting leaders of the party and their candid conversations with him in confidence to be then splattered across the newspaper, is unacceptable.
In Guyana there is a complete lack of decorum and it emanates from the Office of the President, to the op ed pages and every other clown in the country with access to the press.
What Navindra Persaud and several others were trying to falsely accuse the AFC of, that there was no democracy is complete nonsense and clearly with all the delegates on hand yesterday we saw several motions proposed by the AFC NEC members that were voted down by the members of the AFC.
One major example of this was that lifetime membership on the NEC for the leaders of the party was voted down so as to prevent any kind of future untouchables in the party or to prevent others from challenging joining the AFC NEC and participate fully.
