President Bharrat Jagdeo is heading to Barbados for the State funeral of the late Prime Minister David Thompson. Mr Thompson would be buried today after a funeral service at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, the Barbados capital. Of interest is the fact that the late Prime Minister’s grandfather was a Berbician. Mr Thompson had planned to visit Berbice in the new year and to reacquaint himself with his relatives.
He died on October 23 of pancreatic cancer.
Also heading to Barbados is the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Robert Corbin, M.P. He left Guyana yesterday.
Before leaving Guyana, Mr. Corbin who could not be present when the Party delegation led by the Party Chairman, Mr. Bishwaishwar Ramsaroop, C.C.H., signed the Book of Condolence at the CARICOM Secretariat on Monday, took the opportunity to do so yesterday.
