The Guyana Softball League (GSL) presented several trophies to Champion Boy Glenroy Duncan; runner-up Kemar Ferreira, Champion Girl Denise Stuart and runner-up Natalie at the recently held graduation and awards ceremony of the Leonora Primary School in West Demerara.
A trophy was also presented to Asheena Ayube who qualified to attend the Saint Roses High School from her marks at this year’s national grade six assessment examination. Trophies and certificates were also distributed to other outstanding students.
GSL’s Vice-President Dev Hira congratulated the students on their achievements and noted the hard work by teachers and others who played a role in the lives of the children.
Hira said this donation was a fulfillment of a promise made to the school by the executives of the GSL to honour all outstanding students. The organization will also do the same for other schools shortly.
Leonora Primary School’s Headmistress Margaret McKend said the school has been doing well for a number of years in Sports and Academics and promised to continue to encourage the students to apply themselves diligently to take the school to even greater heights.
Words of appreciation were given by best graduating pupil Sevanna Ferreira while Regional Chairman Julius Faber noted that education is most important in the development of people and communities and the country as whole.
School teacher Latchmin Gopaul urged the students to strive for excellence in their lives and to do the school proud. Brief remarks were also given by officers of the Department of Education, Region number 3.
