– with GABA KW Division III knockout
When it seemed as though Georgetown has had enough basketball, the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) will give another dose with its Kevin Worrell Memorial Division III Knockout and a Division II tournament.
The Kevin Worrell Division III competition will get underway tonight on the Burnham Basketball Court with Beepat’s Scorpions taking on GABA newcomers, Westsiders and Ravens playing Nirva Knights in the featured game.
The Division II competition will commence on the following night with Nets playing Plaisance Guardians in the opening game and Scorpions challenging Guyana Defence Force in the featured game at the refurbished outdoor Burnham Basketball Court.
Secretary of the Georgetown sub-association, Robert Cadogan told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that these tournaments are the final instalments before the life of the current GABA Executive expires with elections to be held early in December.
He said it was only fitting that they bring a just end to what has been a very hectic term of basketball in Georgetown. He said that the GABA will continue to provide players with chances to compete where they can hone their skills and improve.
According to Cadogan, several players are debarred from the Division II and III tournaments to make the divisions really competitive and fair. He said in the new season, several other players will appear on the debarred list, following an observation.
Debarred from Pacesetters are Royston Siland, Naylon Loncke, Stephon Gillis and Horace Hodges; from Ravens: Ryan Gullen, Ryan Stephney, Darcel Harris, Dwayne Roberts, Rudy James and Damian Liverpool; from Scorpions: Alwyn Bellamy, Darren Gordon and Kester Gomes; from Bounty Colts: Dane Kendal.
