Police on the Essequibo Coast are still investigating two incidents which occurred over last weekend – one in which six pirates, two of whom were armed with guns, robbed a three-member fishing crew on the Atlantic Ocean off the Pomeroon coast, and the other involving the burglary of a church.
The daughter-in-law, of 60-year-old fisherman, Deomanram Naitram, who was robbed, while at sea, said that her father-in-law returned at his Lima home, on Sunday.
The young woman said that on Friday, her father-in-law and two of his workmen left to go fishing somewhere off the Pomeroon coast. She said that around 23:00 hrs on Saturday she received a phone call from her father-in-law, informing her of the robbery.
According to the woman, Naitram informed her that he was robbed of a tank of fuel, fish glue, two gold rings he was wearing at the time, and two cell phones.
She said that her father-in-law told his family that remained calm during the ordeal and complied with the bandits’ orders.
Naitram’s daughter-in-law said that despite the setback the fisherman is planning on another trip to the sea before the end of this week.
Meanwhile, that said night burglars entered the Lifespring Ministries Assembly Church in Devonshire Castle and carted away a circuit breaker, the amplifier and the music mixer, an instrument that is responsible to fuel sound waves to the other electrical equipment in the building.
A member of the assembly, Sharon Bisnauth, told this newspaper that when followers turned up on Sunday, for the morning mass they saw the building ransacked and the items missing.
Ms Bisnauth said the thieves gained entry through the ceiling.
