Corentyne smash-up…
As was promised by Health Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, post mortem examinations for the 12 accident victims have been completed. This newspaper was told that the examinations were conducted yesterday by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh.
The remains have since been handed over to the respective families for burial. The post mortem were done on Oudit Narine Baboolall, who was the driver of the minibus; Orlando DeMattos, Talita Mendonca and her two-month-old son, Josiah Khan, Janet Baker, 46-year-old Salima Juman, Salmaa Razaac, 35-year-old Cindy Jaggernauth, Patricia Asgarally, 38-year-old Chetram Ramphal, Marquest Ault and 19-year-old Nazradin Mohinudin.
Up to press time yesterday, Fiona Parmasook was still being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital for her injuries. She sustained a broken leg and multiple abrasions.
The other survivors, Tamika Fraser, of Kildonan; Sham Jaggernauth, of Nigg; Nicola Ross and Anwhatie Singh, are all said to be recovering well.
On Friday last, a route 63 minibus was heading east along the Number 19 Corentyne Public Road when it collided with a truck that reportedly attempted to overtake a car and ended up in the path of the minibus. There are reports that the 12 persons were killed on the spot as body parts were scattered about the road.
Meanwhile, up to press time yesterday the driver of the truck was still in police custody.
