Local boxers bristling with confidence as C’bean Fury 2 looms
The inaugural boxing card staged at the Princess Hotel, Providence EBD on Saturday June 5 was well supported and the boxers on show did not disappoint. Who could forget the stunning left hook delivered by Shondell ‘Mystery Lady’ Alfred that felled Corrinne Van Ryck DeGroot for the full count? The Hector Camacho/Denny Dalton shindig also proved to be another good bout that kept the audience on its feet for the duration. Fans left the venue satisfied and asking for more.

Indeed, those yearning for similar entertainment would not want to miss the Holland’s Entertainment Production’s Caribbean Fury 2 boxing extravaganza at the same venue next Saturday November 6.
Several of the nation’s top boxers would be on show including some international boxers and overseas based Guyanese. Raul Frank and ‘Dangerous’ Denny Dalton will face off in a highly anticipated ten rounds affair shortly after Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil and Pamela London square off to settle an old grievance after O’Neil drew first blood in their inaugural contest. Both Frank and Denny have spouted confidence and fans could expect a war as these two go after each other. Frank has promised to utilize his vast experience to outbox Dalton while the latter fighter would be depending on his ferocious left hook to settle the score.
Joel ‘Mr. Majestic’ McRae arrived in Guyana Saturday for his bout against James Walcott and opened camp at the Forgotten Youth Foundation under the eyes of Sebert Blake. He wasted little time in dispatching a missive to his opponent. “I am going to knock you out!” said McRae.
He commended Walcott for the good job he has been doing while harnessing the skills of young amateur boxers at the Harpy Eagles Boxing Gym but feels that Walcott should continue along those lines instead of picking on him (McRae). “I think he should stick to coaching because I am going to embarrass him in front of his charges,” proclaimed McRae.

He said that he has been in training for the past three months in anticipation of a bout in St Marten. “Negotiations for that bout fell through and so I decided to take this bout when I received the offer,” explained McRae. Sporting a 7-0 record, McRae last fought against Marcus Thomas in Trinidad and Tobago winning by a first round stoppage. He said that he has been training at the Cosmic Boxing Gym in Marabella Trinidad and boxed against the likes of Kurt Sinnette and Andrew Fermin, two high profiled Trinidadian boxers. “I am ready for war,” he exhorted.
Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore was also applying the finishing touches to his training sessions yesterday. He will be up against Venezuelan, Breilor Teran in a 10 rounds bantamweight scrap. The lanky Guyanese fighter is also the co-promoter of the card. He said that he has been engaged in stiff training for the past eight weeks with such opponents as Dalton, Mandessa Moses and Cecil Smith among others. He will be engaged in several additional rounds this afternoon at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym (ALBG) and is urging his supporters to visit the venue to assess his level of readiness for the bout.
The other fight scheduled for that night is Alfred up against Columbian bantamweight champion, Olga Julio. Alfred is currently sharpening up under the tutelage of coach, Sebert Blake. The overseas boxers will arrive in Guyana sometime during the week for the weigh in session on Friday night next. Fight time on Saturday is 20:00hrs. (Michael Benjamin)
