A heated fracas between patrons and security personnel at the Princess Hotel on Saturday night has left one guard nursing a gunshot wound to the leg, and another, a gaping wound to the head.
Kaieteur News understands that security guard Dwayne Tuesday, 38, of South Ruimveldt, was rushed to a private hospital some time around 01:00hrs after he was shot in the leg by a patron who was attending a private birthday party.
Also injured in the melee was Robin Bailey, 27, of Middle Road La Penitence.
He sustained a gaping wound to the head after being gun-butted. Both men were treated and discharged.
This newspaper learnt that the problem started when two of the patrons pulled a prank on the guests. A source said that the patrons had discharged a firecracker in the building.
This newspaper was told that one of the supervisors began assaulting the two youths who were outside in the lobby area.
According to an eyewitness, a female began kicking a glass door, and was asked to leave the hotel.
However, Kaieteur News was told that one of the patrons attempted to force his way into the hotel and when Bailey restrained him, he struck Bailey on the forehead.
When the other guard, Dwayne Tuesday, intervened, another patron then drew a firearm and shot Tuesday in the right leg.
The gunman reportedly then fled the scene in a white van, while the injured guards were taken to hospital.
Police reportedly recovered two 9mm shells at the scene.
Efforts yesterday to get a comment from the hotel proved futile.
