Arya Samaj donates wheelchairs to four helpless Berbicians
WILLIAMSBURG, CORENTYNE – The New Jersey Arya Samaj Humanitarian Mission continues to impact on the lives of the less fortunate. Recently it donated four wheelchairs to Nankishore Deen, James Forbes, Monica Amanda Narine and Mohamed Haniff Usman.
Fifty-one year old Nankishore Deen, of Port Mourant, suffered a stroke in August and is unable to walk. His brother-in-law Deonan Chin said that the man was bedridden and it was too much for Deen to take.

James Forbes, a 45-year-old of Manchester, who is incapable of speech, suffered a seizure in 2007 for the first time and has not been himself since. His foster mother, Ernestine Fraser, explained that when he fell down the stairway during the attack, he sustained an injury to his hip and has not walked since.
Monica Amanda Narine, of Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, has been unable to walk since the age of four. Her mother, Sunita Narine, said that she lived a normal life up until then but things took a turn while the child was attending nursery school.
According to her, within one week she became immobile. At age 24, the woman has not developed physically and mentally. “She left lil. She a suck nursing bottle like a baby.”
Mohamed Haniff Usman, a 90-year-old of High Reef, Albion, dislocated his hip.
Head of the Humanitarian Mission, Pandit Suresh Sugrim, said that after the 2010 programme concluded in August, scores of persons came forward seeking help. Among those was Verbena Davis, of Limlair, who got $60,000 to transport her home from Bloomfield to Limlair.
Single parent of nine, Chandrawati Siriram, of Belvedere Squatting Area was given $60,000 as well to buy material for the renovation of her home.
Speaking from New Jersey, Pandit Sugrim said this year his organization expended millions of dollars in charitable work in several localities in Guyana.
In his absence, the local Chapter which is headed by his brother Dr. Ramesh Sugrim continues to assist persons in need. He acknowledged that even though poverty would always remain in society, his organization is striving to satisfy the needs of many individuals and has been doing so for the past five years.
