Dear Editor,
Since the Neesa Gopaul incident I have heard lots of criticisms and comments personally or have read of them, but have kept my thoughts to myself in regards to Neesa’s demise. The recent move by the unusually small group of picketers for justice against those who were responsible for failing to heed the late Neesa Gopaul calls for help had me laughing. I am of the firm view that their protesting should have been calling for the immediate dismissal of the Minister of Human Service and Social Security and she should have been brought to justice and no one else. If these protestors are knowledgeable with most Ministers’ attitude in Guyana and the way they perform their duties, those who were protesting should not have been calling for the workers’ heads, but the Minister’s, whose Ministry have erred.
There’s a lot of unnecessary deaths we are witnessing recently, why not protest for all the religious bodies to keep a country-wide prayers for the nation, or all those NGO’s that are collecting loans/grants to do social service work and are not doing it, or are you planning to protest against those responsible for Radain Wilson’s who died in the car recently.
Protesting for employees to be dismiss would only make Guyana see the job application lines longer and a huge increase in crime. Barama recently send approximately 270 workers home, the sugar industry is on the verge of collapsing and no hope in securing a job in this country, because investors are scared to invest here.
These people are employed to serve their boss and if they were setting an example, then they would not have been so carefree in performing their duties, instead a life has been lost and scapegoats have to pay.
If the Minister of Human Service and Social Security really had any sympathy about the lost of Neesa’s life, she would have refused the Honour that she receive recently from Lesley University. Here is a Minister that has not commented about the issue concerning the child whose penis got “rough up” by police whilst in custody. Her Ministry is responsible for the welfare of the young boy instead of allowing these sadists to infiltrate and bribe him and others that got tortured. A young girl was brutally murder and her Ministry failed the girl’s calling for help, utilizes the media to sound sincere, but is bold enough to accept Honours. If you protesters are really serious, please protest for something to make an impact.
