New West Indies captain will now be referred to as Ambassador Darren Sammy in his native St. Lucia.
The Honour was conferred on the West Indies all-rounder by St. Lucian Prime Minister Stephenson King at a special ceremony at the Beausejour stadium in St. Lucia.
“Cricket is more than just a game to Caribbean people. It is the one unifying force of the Caribbean. I remember watching cricket and the passion that we had…that is what, as captain, I would like to bring back to the Caribbean people,” Ambassador Sammy said at the ceremony.
In addition to being the first West Indies captain from St. Lucia, Sammy is also the first St. Lucian to have played for the West Indies.
