Chess players in Guyana are gearing for one of the biggest national Chess tournaments in Guyana for the year so far and with the most lucrative prizes up for grabs, all the top players in the country are expected to participate. The occasion is the A. Ally and sons 25th Anniversary Chess Tournament slated for Sunday 7th November at the New Amsterdam town Hall.
The tournament which is sponsored by A. Ally and son’s chain of stores in Berbice has been sanctioned by the Guyana Chess Federation.
The event is open to all chess players in Guyana and word out of the organizers is that all the top chess players in Guyana are expected to trek to Berbice to match wits for the lucrative prizes on offer.
The event will be held in two different categories with the seniors and the juniors having their own grouping to battle it out for the attractive prizes. According to the organizers the tournament has been arranged with everyone in mind and there will be something for everybody.
Prizes including cash and other incentives will be available for the top six finishers in both the senior and junior categories, while there will be other incentives available which will be disclose at a later date.
Starting time is 10:00 hrs and each game is not expected to last more than half and hour.
The A. Ally and sons stores which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a number of events has sponsored former National Chess champion Berbician Kristal Persaud who is an employee of the store.
