Police were involved in a high-speed chase of armed bandits on Wednesday night but lost the fleeing suspects’ vehicle at Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
The robbers managed to elude the lawmen before a roadblock had been set up at Grove, police sources said.
Kaieteur News understands that a male family member of R. Netram and Sons, a business place based in Craig, East Bank Demerara, was heading towards Timehri when the robbery occurred at around 20:30hrs.
Netram was one of two persons in a car, and as the vehicle approached the Coverden bridge, they were forced to slow down because of repairs that are ongoing.
It was at that point that two men suddenly appeared with guns at the vehicle’s window and demanded cash. The victims handed over $92,000 and a passport.
The men then jumped into a dark colored car and sped north, in the direction of Georgetown.
However, the two victims managed to alert Timehri Police Station and based on information, Grove police rushed to set up roadblocks.
However, the suspected getaway car managed to pass before the roadblock could be set up.
Police gave chase and had the vehicle in sight but eventually lost it in Eccles.
According to a police source, the matter is under investigation.
