Football fans gearing up for the exciting football usually witnessed at the yearly Kashif and Shanghai football extravaganza are forewarned that the special visit paid by international football maestro, King Pele during the 20th anniversary celebrations last year will not be replicated since the cost of such an initiative, even though worth every penny, had been pretty prohibitive.
That apart, the organizers have promised the same top quality entertainment that has characterized the event since its inauguration twenty one years ago.
These sentiments were disclosed by the K&S duo, Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, when they summoned the media to a press briefing at the Duke Lodge, Duke Street, Kingston yesterday morning.
The forum also served to introduce two new corporate entities that have affirmed their support to the success of the tournament. These two organizations, Ansa McAl and Demerara Distillers Ltd will be sponsoring the tournament under the Mackeson Stag Beer and the Pepsi products, respectively.
Speaking on behalf of her company, Marketing Director of Ansa McAl, Beverly Harper reaffirmed her organization’s support for local sports and more particularly K&S football. She noted that despite the fact that her company was only now contributing at a sponsorship level, there was always a deep seated love for the tournament since she feels that the organizational attributes of the K&S duo was more than commendable. “Ansa McAl has sponsored quite a few events but the K&S tournament has always been close to our hearts,” exhorted Ms Harper.
She likened the administrative aspect of the tournament to that of a well oiled machine which could be juxtaposed to the quality of the product under which the advertising package was issued. “We at Ansa McAl hope that this marriage would be a happy one to last for many years to come,” concluded Ms Harper.
Marketing Manager (DDL), Ms Sharda Vareen Chand also praised the organizational structure of the tournament saying that this trait had inspired her executives to render support. “As one of Guyana’s leading corporate citizens we always derive great pleasure in giving back to the communities that have, and still continue to support our products,” she said.
She noted that K&S had worked exceptionally hard over the years to solidify the tournament as the leading one in Guyana. “It is this hard work that has made the tournament such a successful one and encouraged our support,” said Ms Vareen Chand.
Meanwhile, the team coming out successful has been assured of a one hundred percent increase in the prize monies as the organizers move to make the tournament more lucrative. They also disclosed that embroiled within the Ansa McAl sponsorship deal would be cash and kind along with the trophies and replicas.
Meanwhile, the tournament would get underway on Sunday November 12 with the opening ceremony at the National Stadium, Providence. Subsequently, the action would shift to the Enmore ground, ECD on Friday 17. Thereafter, matches would be played at Blairmount, Berbice, MSC, Linden and the GFC Ground, Georgetown. The final three double headers would all be played at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence on Monday 27 and Wednesday 29 December. The championship match and the third place playoff will be staged on New Year’s Day, also at the National Stadium.
