Just when it seemed that nothing was being done to curb the littering behaviour of persons around Georgetown, the Mayor and City Council arrested Cecil Seymour of Lot 687 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond to answer to the charge of depositing of waste in a public place. He pleaded not guilty.
Police prosecutor Kevin London stated that on August 18, last, a City Police Corporal observed the accused depositing garbage in the vicinity of Shirley Field Ridley Park walkway.
The Corporal approached Seymour and inquired if he had permission from the Cleansing Department to carry out such act. The man answered in the negative and got arrested and taken to the City Constabulary outpost at Bourda.
While being there he was informed of the offence and charged but was later released on $8,000 station bail.
However, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday he was found guilty and fined $9,000 or an alternative of 20 days in jail.
