Authorities in Lethem, Region Nine, have seized a Brazilian-registered car that was suspected to be involved in a murder investigation.
While details of the murder, said to have occurred last week in Boa Vista, Roraima State, Brazil, was still unclear last evening, the Chevrolet car was found hidden in some bushes some 20 miles south of Lethem.
Kaieteur News was told that Brazilian investigators on Monday alerted Guyana’s border point Customs officials that the car which was stolen may be headed to Guyana through Lethem.
Officials at the border point were also told that a man was killed and the Chevrolet Prisma Joy was hijacked.
The Customs Enforcement unit at Lethem, based on information Tuesday morning, found the car some 20 miles away, hidden in bushes. At the time, the engine was still warm and the keys in the ignition, suggesting that the driver may have left hurriedly a short while before.
Documents in the car indicated that the Chevrolet was registered to one Dilma Antonieta Guedes of Boa Vista, Brazil. Guedes was said to be the mother of the murdered man who up to late last evening was still unnamed.
The car was driven back to Lethem where it is being held by Customs.
On Tuesday night also, a joint patrol of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit and Customs Enforcement also seized a Brazilian-registered ‘Scrambler’ bike which was ditched by its rider who abandoned it after meeting the group.
Shots were said to have been fired. But the rider managed to elude the patrol. The bike was also seized.
