First round action in the3rd Annual Mackeson/Digicel Sweet Sixteen is over and the teams competing for championship honours will resume the fierce rivalry tomorrow October 29 when Golden Stars battle Fruta Conquerors at the Plaisance Community Centre Ground in the first quarterfinal encounter.
Also on that night, BVTUFC comes up against Buxton after Flamingo FC became the first casualty of the rule that debars persons outside of the club’s membership from participation in the tournament.
According to the organizers Flamingo had fielded five illegal players in their lineup against BVTUFC on October 15 at the Buxton Community Centre Ground. Flamingo had prevailed 3-1 in that encounter.
However, because of the transgression, they have been disqualified paving the way for the Betterverwagting team to challenge Buxton in the second game of the night.
Subsequently, the action continues on Sunday 31 with two other quarterfinal matches.
In the first scheduled for 18:00hrs, Santos will battle with Rhythm Squad while the feature attraction pit the skills of Western Tigers and Rhythm Squad.
The winners of this match would then join the winners of the Fruta Conquerors/Golden Stars showdown for a semifinal berth.
The tournament is sponsored by Ansa McAl under the Stag Beer label.
