The inquest which was conducted at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court by Magistrate Omeyana Hamilton into the 2001 death of eight-year-old, Troy Hughes, of 49 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, concluded that lorry driver Heralall Narsaiah of 302 Number Two Village, East Canje, was responsible for the child’s death.
The child died nine years ago on September 3, 2001 on the Stanleytown Public Road.
Hughes succumbed at the New Amsterdam hospital after he was allegedly struck down and run over by a truck driven by Narsaiah.
Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira stated that on the day in question, Narsaiah was driving lorry GEE 8341 laden with over 300 cases of soft drinks bound for the DDL building at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam. He was proceeding on Strand, New Amsterdam Public Road.
The driver was arrested and charged, and following a lengthy delay an inquest was ordered.
