Play in the District of Columbia Metro Organisation (DCMCO) 15 overs round hand knockout Countrywide Softball cricket Tournament organized by The Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has reached its quarterfinal stage.
The Quarterfinalists decided after penultimate round in each zone are: Wolf’s Warriors (West Demerara); Regal XI (Georgetown); Farmers XI (East Coast); Adventure XI (Essequibo); Leguan Superstars (Essq. Islands); Farm XI (East Bank): Berbice zone to be decided by today.
In results from the matches played: West Demerara: Hyde Park defeated Irfaan XI by one wicket in a thrilling finish.
Irfaan XI won the toss and batted scoring 93 all out in 14.5 overs (Shivraj Kishundyal 20; Zulfikar Ayube 18; Arjune Pharu 2-14 from 3 overs) In reply Hyde Park XI went over the threshold after #10 batsman Deon Smith was dropped on the long on boundary and to make matters worse the ball went for six thereby achieving the target of 96 -9 in 15 overs (Dhaniram Lallaram 30 (5×6); Zulfikar Ayube 3-9 in 3 overs.
Wolf’s Warriors mauled Hyde Park XI by a massive 115 runs. Wolf’s Warriors batted first and amassed 184-9 after being 24-4 in 6 overs at one stage (Ameer Nizamuddin 98 (11×6; 2×4); Mahendra Doodnarine 18 not out; Arjune Pharu 3-23 from 3 overs) Hyde Park XI folded for 69 all out in 10.1 overs (Dhaniram Lallaram 26; Mandolall Doodnauth 6-13 from 3 overs) Wolf’s Warriors have now progressed to the countrywide quarterfinals.
Essequibo Islands zone finals:
Leguan Superstars defeated Bartica Tigers by 55 runs. Leguan Superstars XI batted first and made 146 all out in 12.2 overs (Satnarine Chattan 29; Rakesh Ramdeen 4-28 from 3 overs) In reply Bartica tigers were limited to 91 all out in 12.1 overs (Mahesh Richards 39; Satnarine Chattan 4-18 from 3 overs).
East Bank Zone:
Farm XI breezed past Airport XI by 6 wkts. Airport XI batted first and scored a meager 95 all out in 11.4 overs (Naresh Narine 20; Raul Reed 4-15 from 3 overs; Patrick Khan 4-20 from 3 overs) Farm XI replied with 96-4 in 14.4 overs (Lennox Mark 29 not out; Abdool Sadiek 27; Khemraj Arjune 2-6 from 3 overs).
Farm XI made light work of All Star Ambassadors by 56 runs. Farm XI won the toss and batted amassing 177-5 in 15 overs (Patrick Khan 79; Munilall Persaud 2-27 from 3 overs). All Star Ambassadors in reply made 121 all out in 14.5 overs (Munilall Persaud 21; Khalid Khan 3-10 from 3 overs. Farm XI has now progressed to the Countrywide quarterfinals.
East Coast Zone:
Hot Steppers XI made light work of Gopaul Mandir by 90 runs. Hot Steppers XI batted first and scored 198-8 in 15 overs (Mark Fung 64; Vishwanauth Jeewan 55; Yugraj Khemraj 5-23 from 3 overs) In reply Gopaul Mandir could only muster 108 all out in 14 overs (Yugraj Khemraj 22; Shazim Mohamed 3-25 from 3 overs).
Rockaway XI cruised past Trophy Stall XI by 2 wkts. Trophy Stall XI batted first and scored a challenging 148-7 in 15 overs (Jagdesh Deosarran 42) In reply Rockaway XI made 152-8 in 14 overs (Steve Ramlakhan 46; Gary Singh 2-18 from 3 overs).
Hot Steppers upset Rockaway XI by virtue of rule 15 after both scores were level and the team that bats first wins.
Hot Steppers batted first and scored 105 all out in their allotted overs (Mark Fung 30) In reply Rockaway were also bowled out for 105 (Rushie Samaroo 48).
In the zone Final Farmers XI (Upper East Coast Champions) defeated Hot Steppers XI (lower East Coast Winners) by 6 wkts. Hot Steppers XI batted first and scored 89 all out in12.2 overs (Mark Fung 29; Delon Wills 3-2 from 3 overs) In reply Farmers XI made 90-4 in 14 overs (Davendra Persaud 37 not out) Farmers XI will now advance to the Countrywide Quarterfinals.
Georgetown Zone:
Park Rangers defeated Brush XI by 76 runs. Park Rangers XI batted first and scored 169-8 in 15 overs (Ron Ramnauth 48; Dennis Mangroo 38 not out; Mahendra Rukhdeo 4-10 from 3 overs) In reply Brush XI made 93 all out in 13.5 overs (Navendra Ingram 34; Mohamed Rafeek 2-8 from 3 overs; Rudy Rodrigues 2-18 from 3 overs).
Regal XI made light work of Ogle Builders XI by massive 110 runs.
Regal XI batted first and scored a challenging 222 -4 in 15 overs (Richard Latiff 90; Lakeram Narine 56 which included 5×6 and a single in one over; Ewery Sharma 1-30 from 3 overs) In reply Ogle struggled to 112-7 in 15 overs (Ewery Sharma 52; Tyrone Sanasie 5-15 from 3 overs).
In the Zone Final Regal XI cruised past Park Rangers XI by 8 wkts. Park Rangers XI batted first and scored 107-7 in 15 overs (Mohamed Rafeek 35; Harrinarine Dilshan 28; Troy Kippins 2-11 from 3 overs) In reply Regal XI cruised to 111-2 in 10.1 overs (Shaheed Gittens 43; Richard Latiff 28 not out; Rudy Rodrigues 1-5 from 2 overs) Regal XI will now advance to the countrywide quarterfinals.
Essequibo Coast Zone:
Adventure XI defeated Teneeze Farm XI by 25 runs. Adventure XI batted first and scored 112-3 in 15 overs (Shauz Grosnar 47) In reply Tenneeze Farm were limited to 87-4 in their allotted overs.
Linden Zone:
South Star XI defeated Sunset Young Stars XI by 5 wkts. Young Stars XI made 106 all out in 14.5 overs (Kevin Anthony 32 not out; Jason Allicock 1-22 from 3 overs) In reply South Star XI cruised to 108-5 in 11 overs (Ron Nargon 25; Krishon Basdeo 19; Kurt Cuffy 2-26 from 3 overs).
Classic XI got a walkover from Bad Boys XI.
In the zone final, South Star XI thrashed Classic XI by 4 wkts in a high scoring affair:
Classic XI batted first and scored a challenging 175-6 in 15 overs (Leonard Caleb 72; Sylvou Hinds 58; Kevin Samuels 2-26 from 3 overs) In reply South Star XI raced to 176-6 in 12 overs (Jason Allicock 50 not out; Krishon Basdeo 50).
Due the inclement weather in Berbice zone finals is scheduled for today between Memorex XI and Celebrity Times XI.
Meanwhile the Quarterfinals will be played Saturday October 30 starting at 9:00am. The Semifinals and Finals along with a female exhibition match between Capoey Regals and Mahaica Creek Vixens will be played next Sunday October 31 at the Demerara Cricket Club Ground (DCC) Starting time 10:00am Sharp.
