There is no way better way to bring down the curtains on what has been an intense basketball season than to have an All-Star gathering at the country’s premier indoor facility for three nights of Showtime Basketball, featuring international stars.
Wildfire Entertainment chose the right time on the annual basketball calendar to host the eighth edition of the hyped ‘basketball fun day’, which is the All-Star Weekend. To take it up a notch, they have added the AND 1 Street Ball Legends to the programme.
So for the first time in Guyana, during November 12-14, basketball enthusiasts will be treated to premium displays of basketball skills, which include radical spin moves, crossovers, dunks, and tricks that were only available on Cable TV or DVD before.
Headlining the list of ‘Streetball Legends’ is none other than ‘The Air Up There’, who made an amazing 720-degree dunk four years ago in an AND 1 game in Houston. The dunk was showed for days as a main clip on ESPN’s Sports Centre network.
His right name is Taurian Fontenette and apart from his nickname, ‘The Air Up There’, after his stunning 720-degree dunk, he was also called ‘Mr. 720’. He is a regular performer on the popular AND I Mixtape and Ball4Real Tours in the United States.
Other than the 720-degree dunk, Fontenette is also known for his signature dunk, the axle-rider, which is also called the ‘360-degree between-the-legs dunk’ that he perfected before taking on the challenge of doubling the rotation in the air.
Fontenette is considered to be one of the best dunkers ever owed to the fact that he regularly does his dunk tricks on breakaways in games. According to Wildfire Entertainment, Fontenette will be accompanied by ‘The Professor’ and ‘The Bone Collector’.
Grayson ‘The Professor’ Boucher is one of the most skilled ‘ball’ handlers that ‘Streetball’ has ever seen since the concept became commercialised. His crossover and handling has earned him a prominent place on the AND 1 Mixtape Tour and in movies.
Two of his notable movie appearances included “Phenom” this year and “Ball Don’t Lie”, which was released two years ago. It’s confirmed; this phenom will be in Guyana to thrill with displays of ball handling skills that are only akin to the Legends.
According to Hoopsvibe.com, ‘The Bone Collector’, who’s real name is Larry Williams is one of the most feared players in the world of Streetball. He has a reputation of challenging some of the most talented ‘ball’ handlers in professional basketball.
“Williams destroys defenders with combinations of devastating dribble moves and trash talk that often continues long after the game is over,” Hoopsvibe.com stated. He, like ‘The Professor’ and ‘The Air Up There’, has specified skills in particular areas.
Williams rose to prominence when he challenged former National Basketball Association Most Valuable Players, Allen Iverson to a one-on-one game, which Iverson refused. Williams told the world later that Iverson “was smart” to refuse the challenge.
There is no question that with Streetball players of those qualities, the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall is set for an entertaining and thrilling night of Showtime Basketball. What is even more awesome is that AND 1 will have a full team, not just these three Legends.
