… Oops! Wrong Target
Two robbers who decided that their target was an easy mark, found out that it was not such a good idea, since their victim turned out to be an off-duty policeman.
To compound matters, the incident took place a few hundred yards from the Grove Police Station.
One of the bandits has since been captured and to polices’ surprise, turned out to be the son of a serving Inspector of Police.
The accused, whose name was given as Treyon Parks, 23, of Eccles Old Road, East Bank Demerara, has been remanded to prison. Police are said to be searching for his accomplice.
Kaieteur News was told that Constable Persaud, a traffic rank stationed at Brickdam Police Station, was heading to his home in Grove Squatting Area last week Saturday night.
The route took him through a street opposite the Grove Police Station.
He was set upon by two men, one of whom stuck him up with a gun, while the other rifled through his pockets.
The rank reportedly struggled with them. Persons in a Chinese restaurant not far away saw the happenings and one of them ran into the police station and alerted ranks of the ongoing robbery.
Police ranks rushed to the scene where they managed to arrest Parks. However, there were no signs of the gun or the $45,000 cell phone stolen from the traffic rank. Also not found was a driver’s licence taken from the rank.
