Former President of the Kaieteur Cycling Club and the Guyana Cycling Federation Ulric Pollydore rode the final race of life a few days ago and the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport has expressed sadness at his passing.
In a release the ministry said, “The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport mourns the passing of a stalwart in the promotion of the Sport of Cycling in Guyana. He was a dedicated and proficient Administrator within the local cycling fraternity and it was primarily his enthusiasm and association with his passion which inspired his son Godfrey to enter the sport.”
Young Godfrey soon became a national Champion representing Guyana at many meetings overseas before migrating. Even after his migration the young Pollydore returns to Guyana to participate in national meets and special races.
“The senior Ulric, though recently ill and wheelchair – bound kept in touch with the sport and even still attended many races. He was even present at the last annual 3-Stage Road Race held in May this year. Ulric “Polly” Pollydore’s contributions have secured Guyana’s place in regional cycling. For that he has earned his place and reputation in Guyana’s world of sport.”
“Local cycling has lost a friend. The Ministry of Sport offers condolences to his family, friends and the local cycling community. The best manner to pay tribute to the memory of Ulric Pollydore is for those involved in cycling at every level to strive for excellence with the passion Mr. Pollydore demonstrated in his life time.”
