Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products located at Ketley Street, Charlestown on Thursday handed over a cheque to the organisers of the Troy Humphrey/Sammy Barker Memorial cycling Meet set for next Sunday in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden.
Melanie Humphrey-Berkley handed over the cheque to President of the Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) Brian Allen in the presence of member of the organizing committee, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major.
Humphrey-Berkley said that Humphrey’s Bakery was pleased to make their contribution towards an event that will see the best riders in the nation competing as they remember the late Troy Humphrey and Samuel Barker. “Troy was a leading rider in this country before he was taken from us and Sammy was very involved as an administrator and fan that always encouraged the athletes to give of their best. We at Humphrey’s are very glad to once again be associated with this event. This is the 13th year we are remembering Troy and as we all know, Sammy passed away and was buried a few weeks ago.”
RBC President Brian Allen thanked Humphrey’s Bakery for their continued support for the development of cycling noting that while it is a memorial meet, it also serves to develop the riders.
Races will be held for all categories of riders including females and BMX and to date 12 events are listed. This amount can increase according to Allen.
Race time on October 31 is 10:00hrs with registration commencing at 9:30hrs.
