Guysuco defeated the Berbice Media eleven by seven wickets to win the 10/10 softball cricket competition when the inaugural Berbice Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with other Corporate Business entities in Berbice held a day of sport and fun day.
The final of the cricket competition which was held over from last week due to fading light was played recently at the All Saints Scot School Ground.
The two teams had defeated 13 other teams in the earlier rounds which were held at the Albion Community Centre ground.
The Berbice Media XI won the toss and elected to take first strike and reached 62 all out in 9.2 overs with Sasenarine Sookdeo making 30 and Davendra Bachan contributing 20 being the main scorers.
Bowling for Guysuco, there were four wickets a piece for Harry Parboo and Adrian Singh.
Guysuco in reply reached 64-3 in 9 overs with Michael Ramlakhan 22 and captain Zaheer Khan undefeated on 20. Satraz ‘Malinga’ Saccoor picked up two wickets bowling for The Media Boys.
The third place play off game between Neal and Massy and Demerara Bank was not played as Demerara bank failed to make an appearance.
At the presentation ceremony which was held immediately after, the winning trophy was presented to the Guysuco captain Zaheer Khan by Imran Saccoor, while the Media teams were presented with the runner up trophy by Peter Sangster another organiser of the day’s activity.
Tyrone Sanasie of the Media XI was adjudged the most valuable player in the competition.
The other teams that participated in the days activity were Oldendorff Carriers, Banks DIH Limited, Guysuco, Republic Bank, Ainlim and Geddes Grant combine (Neal and Massey), University of Guyana, Raj Pool Hall, the Media Eleven, Nand Persaud and Company Limited, Regional Administration Region 6, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Limited, Gafoor’s, International Pharmaceutical Agency, Demerara Bank and Imran and Sons and Poonai Pharmacy combined.
Guysuco had defeated Neal and Massy in one semifinal while the Berbice Media Eleven gotten the better of Demerara Bank.
This is the 1st such initiative in the Region and the organizers’ have planned to make it an annual affair.
The activities were coordinated by Imram Sacoor manager of Republic Bank, New Amsterdam Branch and Peter Sangster of Neal and Massy.
