Last Friday night at the MCY&S Ground on Carifesta Ave. Floodlights defeated Ministry of Sports in a thrilling 25 overs softball match.
Ministry of Sports urged by their cheer leaders batted first and made a challenging 181 for 8 off 25 overs. Bashir Khan top scored with 58, Kamal Khan 33 and Patrick Stewart 32. Bowling for Floodlights Mike Singh took the best bowler award with 4 for 28 off 5 overs.
Floodlights in reply reached 183 for 6 from 22.2 overs. Tulsie Sahadeo led the way with a swashbuckling undefeated 100. He was well supported by Derick Ramoutar who made 40. Bowling for Ministry of Sports Alfred King and Dale France took 2 wickets each.
Wellwoman beat Lusignan Street Warriors by 39 runs in their 10/10 match. Wellwoman batted first scored 93 for 1 off their allotted 10 overs. Abiena Parker top scored with 38, Joan Van Sertima 28 and Akeeze Thompson 22. Lusignan Street Warriors in reply were bowled out for 54. Anita Ramdeo top scored with 19. Bowling for Wellwoman Victoria Bacchus took 4 for 22 and was adjudged best player of the match.
At the presentation ceremony, Trophy Stall boss Ramesh Sunich expressed satisfaction at the good relationship between the Ministry of Sports and the Guyana Floodlights Cricket Association and said he will continue to sponsor all trophies in future matches between these two teams.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Mr. Alfred King thanked Ramesh Sunich for his sponsorship and stated that he would like to have many more games like this with Floodlights.
He also offered the MCY&S Ground to Floodlights to use whenever it is available.
