The 12-year-old boy who has been detained since Wednesday by ranks of the Turkeyen Police Station, remained in police custody up to press time yesterday.
The child’s mother, Sonia Drayton, told this newspaper that she visited the Turkeyen Police yesterday and was again told that she will not be allowed to see her son.
Since his detention on Wednesday, Drayton said that she has not seen her son.
The woman added that when she enquired from ranks at the police station about when her son would be released since his stipulated 72 hours of detention was up; she was told that Saturdays and Sunday are not counted in, in the 72 hours.
The woman added that she was also informed by ranks there that her son’s statement is being reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecution.
Also this newspaper was told that the dead child’s grandmother is still in police custody.
The two were detained after it was reported that 17-month-old Ralandzo Hunte died at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The dead child’s mother, Tiffany Tyrell, had initially told this newspaper that her mother was attempting to ward off the 12 year old from entering their yard.
Tyrell said she saw her mother grab a piece of wood from the step and dealt a last in the direction of both the twelve year-old and her son.
She however noted that she did not see who the wood struck but she noticed her son on the ground with a gaping wound to his head with blood gushing out.
The child was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
He returned on Monday and died on this third visit to the hospital on Tuesday. A post mortem which was done on Friday revealed that Rolandzo died of a fractured skull.
