Volleyball action moves to Berbice today when the Guysuco Training School in Port Mourant Corentyne stages a one-day Extravaganza in the School compound beginning at 09:30 hrs.
Teams from all over Guyana are expected to participate in the competition which is anticipated to have most of the country’s top players in action.
A lot of attractive prizes including cash, trophies, medals and other memorabilia will be at stake for the winners and outstanding individual performances.
The champion team will be presented with $ 20,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up receives $ 10,000 a trophy and third placed team, a trophy.
Individual awards will be given for Most Valuable Player, best attacker, best server, best setter, and best blocker.
Teams will be placed in groups with the top two qualifying for the knock out stage. The other teams will then have a second chance to redeem themselves as they battle for the minor positions.
The best teams in the country have all inked their names on the participation list and are expected to throng to Berbice to compete against the best in the Ancient County and among them are Young Achievers of West Bank Demerara, Castrol Strikers of Georgetown, Rollers of New Amsterdam, Vikings of Blairmont, Sandreef, three teams from the Port Mourant Training School, Letter Kenny of Corentyne, Eaglets of Canje, and Port Mourant/ Corentyne.
Organiser of the tournament is former national captain and national coach Levi Nedd.
