Police in the city are faced with yet another robbery investigation as yet another city businessman was robbed while making a stop at Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg. Some time after 15 hours, yesterday, a businessman was with his wife and daughter heading home when they decided to stop at a Thomas Street business place.
This newspaper was told that the man left his family in the parked car and headed over the road to meet with friends. While talking with his friends this newspaper was told two men were seen a short distance away on a motorcycle.
“One of the men on the bike jump off the bike and walk up the road to where the car was parked but we didn’t pay the man any mind,” an eyewitness told this newspaper.
Reports are that the man, as he was approaching the parked car, drew a handgun and started shooting indiscriminately forcing persons in the vicinity to run for cover.
“This man fire like three shots and after the car was locked up he just took the gun and broke the window and grabbed a bag.”
This newspaper was told that throughout the ordeal the businessman’s wife and child were in the car screaming hysterically. A license firearm holder, who was in the area at the time, returned fire at the gunman as he was fleeing the scene.
Persons in the area said had it not been for the woman and the child in the car the bandit would have been caught.
“Dis man coulda get shoot but we couldn’t shoot while he went at de car because de lady and the child woulda get hit too,” one man lamented.
Reports are that the gunman made good his escape with a substantial amount of cash. Persons who witnessed the incident said from all indication the businessman was traced by his attacker from one location to where he was attacked.
